Based on what I read and my own personal experience the FICM can slowly go bad without the truck showing any symptoms. As skipper32 said there is a good chance you can fix it if it starts to show symptoms. If I knew what I knew now when I paid almost $1000 to replace my FICM I would have repaired it myself..

I think my FICM is starting to have issues. When cold, it struggles to get up to voltage (above 45v) for a bit. Specifically, KOEO it starts out at about 44v and bounces up and back from there.
